About Judith Larsen
My wide range of work experiences, from broadcast journalism, science writer for NOAA, and marketing director for an architectural firm, to muralist for the Seattle Arts Commission have enriched my art and focus. I graduated from the University of Washington (UW) with a BSFA degree, recipient of the prestigious Milnora Roberts Scholarship, awarded to one student annually in all the Liberal Arts colleges at the UW. After graduation I received a commission to create murals for the Seattle Arts Commission. The Washington State Arts Commission then awarded me a studio in an arts community at the Pike Place Market where I worked for decades.
My painting style is usually expressionistic, although I often focus on incorporating social consciousness into my work, which led me to create a series to honor slain female journalists. That series “Frontline Heroines” was exhibited at several Seattle and Northwest galleries. The University of Washington purchased several pieces of that series for permanent display and Seattle University's Rosetta Hunter Gallery includes a portrait in its permanent collection.
Feeling the urge to diversify, I sought further education in communications, which enabled me to land jobs in television and radio news broadcasting. I also was a science writer for NOAA and then a marketing director in both engineering and architecture. While employed at the architectural firm, I learned about space planning and architecture. That led me to design and build an art studio in Cave Creek, Arizona.
